To me the church looks very dark and painted kind of gloomy, the sky is dark blue. The darkness of the painting gives off a gloomy feeling. I think Van Gogh made the church the focus and used darker colors on the church and sky to represent a sort of loss of faith. I also notice more color and brush strokes in the grass.
